Code of Conduct
What you do to others, they will do to you
Imagine yourself moving to a new neighbourhood. When you open a Sporkle-account,
we like to think that it’s like become a citizen of Sporkle. When a lot
of people live next to each other, it’s not always that everybody is exactly
clear on how to behave.
That’s why an important part of the development of a society is the creation
of a set of guidelines for how to behave.
Your username
How would you like to be known to your neighbours? Or when you go shopping?
Surely you wouldn’t want to be known under an offensive name. Same thing
when you make your username. Do not make your username anything racist, sexist,
obscene, threatening, libellous, unlawful or hateful – basically something
you wouldn’t want to be called in real life.
If you do it anyway, you’ll be required to change it in order to keep
your account.
Mutual respect
It would be nice if we could ensure that everybody just treated everybody else
with mutual respect, and we encourage you to treat other user as you would like
other users to behave towards you.
Mind the language
Do not use Sporkle to threaten, harass, stalk, or abuse other users. Do not
hack other users accounts. Cheating in the games is prohibited, and users who
are caught cheating may receive penalties such as suspension or adjustment of
their game ratings.
Chatting on instant messaging is a vital part of Sporkle. This is a fine way
to get to know other Sporkle-users. Again we urge you to behave decently.
Do not shout (type with all capitals) spam (send unsolicited commercial messages)
or curse when communicating with other users via Sporkle. People have different
boundaries; even though you may have a high acceptance-threshold, other users
may not. So keep the conversations in a respectful tone - at least until you
get to know the other users.
Sporkle does not accept public messages that are unlawful, abusive, threatening,
invasive, offensive, harassing, adult-oriented, vulgar, obscene, or hateful
in any way (ethnically, racially, spiritually, or otherwise)
Don’t vandalize
Sporkle does not accept messages containing software viruses or any other computer
code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality
of any computer software, hardware or telecommunications equipment. Do NOT use
any device, software, or routine to interfere or attempt to interfere with the
proper working of the game or discussion flow.
Be careful about information
Do not collect or store personal information about other users. Do not submit
messages containing information you do not have a right to transmit under any
laws or under contractual relationships (such as inside information, proprietary
and confidential information).
Please be careful not to give personally identifiable information (such as
social security numbers, credit card numbers, address or telephone numbers)
to strangers online, as this information may be used for illegal or harmful
purposes.
Be kind to strangers
If you’re an experienced player have patience with new player –
they’re just learning and therefore slower at playing. Please help them
with to get started in the games by telling them about the rules and basic strategy.
The more players that join Sporkle, the more fun it will be for everyone. If
you’re new, feel free to ask for help from the more experienced players.
Report sinners
Most of us are here to have fun on Sporkle. But unfortunately some are out to
ruin the fun. Help us finding these sinners. If you discover a user that’s
out to spoil the experience for other users, report this user to us. We will
then take the appropriate action.
Have fun
And the last thing – be sure to have a lot of fun at Sporkle. That’s
what it’s made for.
Best regards
The Sporkle Team
